Dear Editor, When I eat a lot of junk food, I've noticed that I'm more prone to depression. Lately, my diet has been really bad and I feel terrible. I'm slow, non-energetic and in general .... feel lousy! I also need to lose weight and I'm wondering if the reason for my depression is guilt from eating the wrong foods. ~~ Millie Dear Millie, Depression and diet are intricately related. When you exercise and eat healthy foods, you feel better about yourself. Foods that are low in fat and sugar tend to make you feel more energetic. You'll notice the different immediately when you get in the habit of eating foods that are healthy instead of your regular high fat meals, which slow you down. Also eating smaller portions will make you feel better. Eating junk food makes you feel bad because you will put on more weight as the result of your action. Start a low fat diet immediately. Write down the foods you will eat for the day. Reduce portion size by one-third and include at least 5 servings a day of fruits and vegetables in your diet. Eliminate as much junk food and sugar as possible from your diet. Exercise does wonders for
lifting depression. Take fast pace walks 4 to 5 times per week.
Stationary bike riding or cycling outdoor is a excellent fat burning
exercise that's also great for lifting depression.
