Frustration is the most common emotion with weight loss. We want everything to happen instantly and when it doesn’t, we get discouraged. Losing weight is a long-term endeavor, not an overnight process. You have to think long-term as in 6 months to year. Even if you only lost 1 pound each month, you will be 12 pounds lighter after a year instead of gaining 10 or 20 extra pounds. Even better, you will formed the good eating and lifestyle patterns that promote weight loss. It’s important to stay focused on your eating and exercise plan when dieting. Write down your food plan, make it comfortable and stick to it. Develop discipline and be willing to make minor adjustments to your plan when necessary. Sometimes just cutting out one type of food from your diet can mean the difference between success and failure.
The problem is not so much losing weight because anyone can lose weight with the proper effort. The real problem is keeping it off. Most people lose weight through drastic starvation diets or low carb diets only to gain it all back. This is typical because people deprive themselves when dieting and over-eat to make up the difference. To make matters worst, the metabolism tends to slow down after long periods of dieting, which makes a person more vulnerable to re-gaining weight. Again, take a long term attitude and make permanent changes in your lifestyle and eating habits. This is the cure for yo-yo dieting.
Starvation is popular for dieting but will usually backfire. It’s very difficult to skip meals and not be famished by late afternoon or dinner, which leads to binging. Contrary to popular opinion, your body does not respond to one big meal towards the end of the day. Calories should be spread out evenly through the day to burn fat efficiently. Most people can’t maintain
starvation diets for more than a few days. They usually give up and
become disappointed. Those few who survive starvation tactics and lose
weight, usually gain it all back within a short period of time. Diet and Healthy Eating Calories, Intake and Cholesterol Exercise and Walking |
