My friend suggested dieting on green tea to lose weight.  I have to admit that I’m a little skeptical. Sounds like another miracle cure to me but I am curious. Does dieting with green tea really work?

Green tea has a lot of benefits but weight loss isn’t one of them. You will typically find green tea diets advertised in tabloids and Internet websites as the latest cure to obesity but your premonition was right.  Losing weight from green tea is just another diet scam. There is no scientific evidence that green tea will help you lose weight.

However, green tea does have proven health benefits.  I wouldn’t suggest you drink green tea to lose weight but green tea can help in the following areas:

  • Cancer fighting potential in green tea is 100 times more effective than vitamin C.
     
  • Green tea is 25 times more effective than vitamin E in blocking cell mutation that cause cancer.
     
  • 1 cup of green tea provides the same amount of antioxidants as 1 to 2 servings of vegetables.
     
  • Green tea contains almost twice as much cancer protection antioxidants than an 8-ounce glass of orange juice.
     
  • Green tea is a great supplement to vegetables for cancer protection.
