Dear Editor,
A friend told me that grapefruit burns fat and I could lose weight
eating 3 grapefruits each day. Is this true? I would like to believe
that this work, but is it possible to stay on a diet of grapefruit?
Need Answer
Dear Need Answer,
One of the biggest diet myth is that grapefruit burns fat. And the truth
is that grapefruit has no fat burning properties. There is no magic
solution when it comes to losing weight. Burning more calories than you
take in is the only way to burn fat and lose weight.
However, it is possible to lose weight
on a grapefruit diet but not because of the grapefruit. Weight
loss would happen because the total calorie consumption would be very
low. But like you suggested, a diet like this is impossible to
maintain because it is nothing more than a starvation diet.
Starving your body only leads to
over-eating and food binges. When you consume only a few hundred
calories during the day, your body reacts by increasing your appetite to
make up for the calorie deficit. This is the way your body survives
........ it doesn't know you're on a diet.
The best diet is when you eat 25% less
calories than normal. This will cause your body to burn it's fat reserve
and create weight loss at a slow pace. If you need a good diet plan, we
