Dear Editor, I want to know more about the lemonade diet. Does it help burn fat and get rid of impurities? I heard that this diet will help you lose weight quickly but I need your advice before I try it. Thanks for you help. ~~ Sheila Dear Sheila, You should be very skeptical of fad diets and especially diets that starve your body. Most people who use this diet, drink lemonade with no other real foods. Starving your body into submission is not the way to lose weight. The lemonade diet will fail you for the following reasons:
It's very difficult to NOT eat real food for most of the day. Most people "give in" to temptation by the end of the day and over-eat or binge.
By not eating regularly through the day and eating too few calories, your metabolism actually slows down to meet the calorie demand of your body. You will have difficulty losing weight with a slow metabolism.
It takes 3500 calories to burn 1 pound of fat, so your initial weight loss is water and not fat.
99.9% of people who do lose significant weight on the lemonade diet (and few people do) will gain the weight back very quickly. The starvation tactic of this diet will eventually lead to over-eating as soon as your will-power runs out. When this happens ....watchout! You'll gain weight and weigh more than before the diet. To lose weight, change your attitude and take it one pound at a time. Decrease your overall calorie consumption by 25% and increase your activity level so that you burn more calories than you take in. Don't make the mistake of trying to loss a lot of weight all at once. A sensible diet plan where you learn portion control and how to select good foods is the way to go. You should never feel too deprived when you're trying to lose weight. Plan every meal so you know exactly what you'll be eating. Write down your meals and plan 25% less calories than usual.
