Dear Editor, No matter what I try to do, losing weight seems impossible, however I did lose weight several years ago on a low fat diet. I know that sensible dieting and proper meal planning is the key to lose weight but I get so discourage when I don’t see results after the first week or two. Can you offer tips on what to do? ~ Hate Dieting Dear Hate Dieting, Yes, you are right. The only real way to lose weight is to place yourself on a good diet and increase your exercise. The trick is to make your diet fun so that dieting doesn’t seem like such a burden. Below are a few dieting tips you can use to make dieting more easy.
To lose weight, you must burn more calories than you take in. Most men should maintain between 1600 to 2000 calories to lose 1 pound each week. Women should maintain between 1200 and 1500 calories per day to lose a pound each week.
If you must have a sugary treat, you can pick a low fat / lower calorie version of your favorite treat. If you like ice cream, then have ½ cup of low fat ice cream for a treat every day. If you crave Starbucks and just have to have that Frappuccino, limit yourself to a small Frappuccino and pick the regular version instead of the chocolate brownie or mocha coconut version. What ever your fix, you can still have it by picking a lower calorie version and staying within your calorie limit for the day.
It’s easier to lose weight when you eat more, not less! The proper way to lose weight is to eat small meals through the day to keep your blood sugar and energy level stable, which is important for weight loss.
Though not popular,
regular exercise will help you burn more calories. Make it easy by taking
fast pace walks 20 to 30 minutes ….. three to six times per week. You
can lose weight by dieting without exercise but exercise will help speed
the weight loss process. If you can’t walk, try riding the stationary
bike in front of your favorite television program.
