Anyone can be successful at dieting if you abide by the 3 most important tasks. These 3 tasks are eating more often but smaller meals, controlling calories, and avoid depriving yourself.
When dieting, most people skip meals to save calories. This is the worst thing you can do! It’s important to keep your appetite and blood sugar level stable through the day. By doing so, you keep yourself from binging later in the day. Eating often also gives you more will-power to avoid junk food. You will burn fat more efficiently when you maintain level blood sugar throughout the day.
The other equation to successful dieting is learning to control the amount of calories you consume each day. If you eat too few calories, you’ll always be hungry and you won’t be able to stick to your diet. Eating too many calories will keep you from losing weight. Reducing calorie intake by 25% to 30% is the proper way to lose weight without feeling too hungry. It’s not absolutely necessary to count calories when dieting. You can reduce portion size by one-third. The best way to assure that you’re diet will result in weight loss is for females to restrict calorie intake between 1200 and 1500 calories per day. The average male should maintain between 1600 and 2000 calories per day to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. The trick is to schedule 4 to 5 small meals and stay within your calorie limitation. Each meal should be 200 – 400 calories, 4 to 5 times per day.
If you have a favorite treat, why not include it in your diet several times per week. For example, we have a client who loves Starbucks low fat muffins. The muffins are 350 calories but she counts it as 1 of her 4 meals, five times a week. This way she gets her favorite treat four times a week, without feeling deprived, and she sticks to her diet most days. If you need help with dieting, let us help.
