Dear Editor,
I noticed that I lost 8 pounds on the first
few weeks of my new diet. Is that 8 lbs. more water weight
than fat? I’m afraid that I won’t be able to continue that
much weight loss while dieting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m
thankful for the weight loss, but how much is fat versus
water. Dear Dieting, Yes, it’s common to lose more water weight than fat on the first few weeks of your diet. People who lose the most water on a diet tend to be slightly to moderately obese. The good news is that you will continue to lose weight if you maintain your healthy diet plan. You can expect to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week by dieting. You may reach a plateau after several months but you will continue to lose weight. Concentrate on eating healthy foods and stay within your calorie limit. You can make dieting fun by choosing foods you like and substituting lower calorie versions of your favorite fatty foods. Try to eat more often through the day, not less. Your body will burn more calories and you’ll be less vulnerable to binging by eating 4 to 5 small meals through the day. If you need help dieting, let us help.
